Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Women of Spirit® Program
through the Women of Spirit® Awards, Carlow University
recognizes outstanding women leaders who exemplify the
Carlow mission in their personal and professional lives.
These awards are meant to reflect the impact of women
leaders in our society in such diverse fields as business,
the arts, education, technology, community service,
sports and science, to name a few. The women chosen
this year will be honored collectively at the annual
Women of Spirit® Gala to be held October 9, 2004.
The Women of Spirit Program has earned a distinguished
place as a Pittsburgh treasure. The Women of Spirit® Award is presented annually to Pittsburgh-area women
who are leaders in their professions, voices of the
unheard and visionaries in their communities. The award has been
presented at a national level to Marlo Thomas, award-winning actress and producer;
Jill Ker Conway, best-selling author and historian;
Judith E. Heuman, assistant secretary for the Office
of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services for
the United States Department of Education; and Teresa
Heinz, social and political activist and chairman of
the Heinz Family Philanthropies. Carlow announces the honorees of this prestigious award at a private luncheon each summer and publicly recognizes
them at the annual Women of Spirit® Gala in the fall. The effects of the program
continue throughout the year in the form of valuable
scholarships which are given to students who exemplify
Carlows mission.
